THRILLED! Indigenous Day in My City

spongebobThis evening I was on Facebook and one of my aunts sent me a short video clip promoting an Indigenous cultural event happening in our city. I was intrigued and clicked play…One hour later I still have a grin of excitement on my face! My city is celebrating National Aboriginal Day for the first time! I am totally going and am most looking forward to meeting new people and hearing stories from the elders. I am also thrilled about the marketplace, the drumming, the dancing and overall, learning more about what it truly means to be an ally.

I am creating a list of goals for myself that I want to accomplish at this event (am I weird?)…

This is what I have so far 🙂

  1. Learn how to say a greeting/phrase from 3 different Nations
  2. Attend the teach-ins/cultural education components
  3. Meet other allies (hopefully)
  4. Meet Donna Keuhl and learn more about Onedia Circle
  5. Find out what it means to be an ally from the perspective of Indigenous nations
  6. Find out what issues (if any) Indigenous people face in the city I live and what I can do to provide support

Thank you for reading,

Miss. Solidarity
